Emerging from the cocoon of academia, Hebden Bridge’s indie prodigies, The Short Causeway, make a dazzling return with their latest single, ‘On My Way Home.’
‘On My Way Home’ is a sonic reverie capturing the weightlessness and restlessness of youth, as The Short Causeway deliver their long-awaited new track. The track, released after a year of academic exile, immerses listeners in the complex soundtrack of rainy-day daydreams and the anticipation of being anywhere but here. The trio—Claudie Nicholson (guitar/vocals), Rufus Stott-Leach (drums), and Hayden Davey (bass/vocals)—channels the nervously energetic spirit of their debut single, ‘Tripping Down The Stairs,’ blending trebly guitars and romantic humdrum lyricism reminiscent of the 80s Postcard Records and the modern indie scene.
“‘On My Way Home’ is one of the songs we are most proud of and really connect with – we all teared up when we first heard the mix of it. It touches on mundanity in a melancholic way, telling a story that is filled with boredom, waiting while on a journey, and longing to be anywhere else. But it’s really just a fun track, mimicking the journey itself. It’s better describing being at a loss in the past than being at a loss in the present.”
