Scarlet Rae has released a stirring new single, ‘The Reason I Could Sleep Forever,’ the latest preview of her upcoming EP No Heavy Goodbyes, out September 19th on Bayonet Records.

The Los Angeles-born, New York-based artist continues to sharpen her fusion of hushed, ethereal vocals and grainy shoegaze textures on her latest track. ‘The Reason I Could Sleep Forever’ builds on the tone set by her earlier single, ‘Bleu,’ and further reveals the emotional weight underpinning the No Heavy Goodbyes EP. ‘In The Reason I Could Sleep Forever,’ Rae confronts emotional and physical exhaustion head-on, crafting a song that resonates with stark vulnerability but never glorifies despair. The accompanying video, also out now, mirrors the track’s solemn beauty with dreamlike imagery.

Rae says:

“This song comes from the weird quiet place where you’re not exactly okay, but not giving up either. It’s about being emotionally and physically depleted, questioning everything, and realizing how much we really are our own worst enemy. The first verse walks you through sorta a spiritual confusion I was experiencing around the idea of the afterlife. I’d light candles and stare directly into them, desperately trying to get some sort of connection through the flame, then instantly switch into like an atheist mindset, feeling so confused on what’s real or not.”

‘The Reason I Could Sleep Forever’ is out now. No Heavy Goodbyes arrives September 19th via Bayonet Records.
