Video Premiere: Sarah Summer shares intimate video for ‘Another Pill’
Desert chanteuse Sarah Summer delivers a deeply personal and emotionally charged indictment of addiction with her latest video release, ‘Another Pill.’
Combining the soothing tones of a lullaby with impassioned lyrics the track takes a raw glimpse into Summer’s experiences with her father’s addiction to prescribed pain pills. Produced by Wolfgang Zimmerman, the track presents a naked home recording of Summer’s delicate acoustic guitar-backed vocals, allowing the heartfelt lyrics to take center stage. The result serves as both a soothing blanket and a cry of frustrated surrender, softening the sharp edges of its theme.
“Here is a heavy synopsis cloaked by a lullaby. It’s been 19 years of my dad on prescribed pain pills. His suffering is real. He had an injury, an actual need for medication, and now, he coasts with bouts of indulgence, burning pain, and an awful fear of withdrawal. Today he is anorexic. Starvation is a science in this case. He keeps his life in balance with a mixture of morphine, nicotine, afrin, and breyers natural vanilla ice cream. People are complicated. When I was baby, he talked about the rapture. He was a youth pastor in my teen years, everyone listened in awe of him. He has taught me to trust in invisible things, to believe in miracles, and that nothing is as good as what comes after death. He has faced a tremendous amount of emotional and physical abuse his entire existence. Throughout his quest, next to God, drugs have been his closest friend. But they have been killing him slowly. It is the beginning of the end. Or is it? He is patiently waiting on God.”
