Mike Lindsay conjures up culinary magic with ‘Kachumber’
Mercury Prize-winning producer Mike Lindsay, recognized for his work with Tunng and LUMP, mesmerizes listeners with his new single ‘Kachumber.’ This culinary-inspired track sets the stage for Lindsay’s debut solo album, supershapes volume 1, scheduled for release on June 14, 2024, via Moshi Moshi Records.
‘Kachumber,’ the latest offering from Mike Lindsay, derives its inspiration from the Indian salad of the same name. Lindsay, also one half of the electronic alt-psych duo LUMP with Laura Marling, narrates the full Kachumber salad recipe, drawing influence from the Dishoom Indian cookbook. The accompanying video, shot entirely on VHS by Ben Edwards (aka Benge), adds a nostalgic touch with feedback loops on vintage video editing hardware, enhancing the salad’s mystical creation.
Of the song’s inspiration, Mike Lindsay said:
“It’s about the magic of creating something in the kitchen whilst listening to the radio. It’s a zen-like feeling and extremely cathartic whilst also being creative. The Alchemy of blending ingredients to create something greater than the sum of its parts. The salad has personality.”
Mike Lindsay’s supershapes volume 1 promises to be a unique exploration of the miraculous in the mundane, focusing on everyday domestic objects and rituals. The album, initially conceived as purely instrumental, evolved with the addition of vocal tones by Anna B Savage and contributions from multi-instrumentalist Ross Blake and saxophonist Robert Stillman.
‘Kachumber’ is out now and follows the previously released ‘Lie Down.’ supershapes volume 1, is scheduled for release on June 14, 2024, via Moshi Moshi Records.
