Marissa Burwell releases new pop-rock anthem ‘Catch and Release’
The pop-rock anthem delves into the internal struggles with self-esteem, offering a candid reflection on the fleeting moments of confidence amidst pervasive self-doubt.
Canadian singer-songwriter Marissa Burwell has released her first new music of 2024. Entitled ‘Catch and Release,’ the track captures the essence of feeling “eternally average,” navigating the highs and lows of self-esteem with honesty and vulnerability. Set against a backdrop of smooth vocals and laid-back melodies, the track offers a relatable exploration of the internal battles we face in creative pursuits and personal relationships.
Of the single, Burwell said:
“When producing this song inspiration came from artists such as Soccer Mommy and The Beths. Part of the chorus, verse two, and the bridge have been in my notes app for probably two years but it was only after my producer Chris Dimas played the opening riff of the song that they finally found a home. My instinct when writing usually has a low bpm and some acoustic, so I love getting to collaborate with the people in my life to make a song that I probably wouldn’t have made on my own.”
Accompanying the single is a music video that adds an unexpected twist to the themes of insecurity. Despite exploring the ups and downs of self-doubt, the video embraces a carefree attitude reminiscent of early 2000s music videos. Shot in a historic house from 1913, the video captures Burwell’s playful performance as she dances around with imaginary backup dancers, creating a whimsical and nostalgic visual experience.
‘Catch and Release’ is available on all major streaming platforms starting May 3rd.
