Vancouver-based band Loving gifts us with the ethereal and enchanting ‘No Mast,’ the third single teasing their upcoming album, Any Light, set to release on February 9th via Last Gang Records/MNRK.

With a mesmerizing blend of breezy melodies and shimmering soundscapes, ‘No Mast’ captures the essence of hopeful love, inspired by Jesse Henderson’s exploration of James Hollis’ insightful critique of romantic love in The Eden Project: In Search of the Magical Other.

In Henderson’s words:

“I found this book all beat up and tucked under the couch in the studio. It offers an insightful critique of romantic love and the psychological forces that shape the way we love or fail to. I guess the song just stumbled along afterwards as kind of a reflection on it.”

This single follows the success of the album’s lead track, ‘Medicine,’ and the soulful closer, ‘Blue.’ Both tracks have amassed over 500K streams and earned a spot on Spotify playlists such as All New Indie, Front Page Indie, and Fresh Folk.

Any Light, available for pre-order, promises a musical journey filled with serendipitous inspirations. The duo, comprised of Jesse Henderson and David Parry, have crafted the album through free-flowing experimentation, resulting in a body of work that navigates complex themes such as romantic love, depression, existential uncertainty, and the impact of digitization on our lives.

The album’s creation took place at Risque Disque studio on Vancouver Island, signaling a significant expansion of Loving’s musical repertoire. Featuring a more elaborate sound than its predecessor, the album incorporates trumpet, timpani, vibraphone, strings, and organ, showcasing the band’s evolution. Despite venturing into new sonic territories, Loving maintains their poetic introspection and warm presence, making each track an immersive experience.

Loving are gearing up for a North American headline tour starting on February 23rd, covering various cities, including Los Angeles and New York City. The tour promises to be a celebration of their evolving sound and the mesmerizing stories embedded in their music.
