Denver’s Little Trips release initial single and video, “Orange & Foggy” in advance of their debut album
Denver indie group Little Trips have released their debut single and music video, “Orange & Foggy” creating a vivid illustration of what fragmented memories come to be.
Produced by: Drew Vandenberg
Denver’s Little Trips may be new to the public, but their collaboration dates back to 2016 when they first met in Boulder Colorado. At the time, Mr. Laut was working on a solo acoustic album. And Mr. Paton had just arrived in town, bass in hand, via Buffalo, New York. Both seeing what the other had to offer, in 2017 they formed the duo Whiskey Autumn, complete with looping synthesizers and hip-hop drum breaks.
Fast forward to today and Greg Laut and Jason Paton are still making synth driven tracks, but now as Little Trips.
“Orange & Foggy”, released today, is Little Trips initial single off of their debut album Downhill to Paradise (Fall 2021). The song is an exploration of how fragmented memories can lead to an inaccurate recollection. “Each verse of the track is a snapshot of a fragmented memory, with the realization in the chorus that the dust of time eventually blots out our memories until nothing remains,” Mr. Laut says. “The music video captures how fragmented memories appear in our mind as hazy events from different times folding on top of each other, and how we are unreliable narrators of our own histories.” But the music is anything but fragmented. From the introduction of the initial melody to the last fleeting notes that fade away, the journey Mr. Laut and Mr. Paton take you on is measured and methodical. Produced by Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, of Montreal, Drive-By Truckers, Toro Y Moi) the song also features Pistol Stoessel (Faye Webster) on pedal steel.
As summer rolls along, “Orange & Foggy” deserves to become the backdrop for the memories you create. It’s a delightful song that will leave you wanting more from Little Trips.
Downhill to Paradise is due out in the fall of 2021.–
