Australian newcomer, Dull Reality releases his first single of 2022, ‘Fragment’
Dull Reality drops a new atmospheric electronica track, ‘Fragment,’ that is anything but dull.
Ben Shields recently launched his Dull Reality project in mid-2021. The debut, a four-track ep titled Daffodil was a project that “wrestled with a range of personal subjects, from aging to family to existential questioning.”
Today, he’s back with his latest single, ‘Fragment.’ The dreamy four-minute long track was written over a two-month period and underwent multiple iterations before landing in its current state. The biggest adjustment came in the vocals and how they were manipulated.
“It was a bit of a process to write this song – I worked on it for two months, and it went through many iterations. It grew from a drum pattern and a few vocal lines I had sung and recorded early on as I was exploring the anxiety that I was feeling in the early stages of my partner’s pregnancy with our first child.” He continues, “I had full lyrics written for the song, but they were ultimately edited out and the vocals ended up a kind of fragmented, crystallized version of what they had been. They’re more of a feeling now rather than words, and that ultimately seemed quite appropriate for what I was going through at that time.”
‘Fragment’ is available everywhere now.
