Dr. Dog has unveiled their new single ‘Tell Your Friends,’ a sweetly nostalgic track from their upcoming self-titled album, set to release on July 19th, 2024.

‘Tell Your Friends’ offers a departure from the psychedelic soundscape of their lead single ‘Talk Is Cheap,’ featuring delicate piano work and scratchy beats. The track is notable as the first song in the band’s history written by drummer Eric Slick.

Lead guitarist Scott McMicken remarks:

“I immediately loved the beautiful simplicity of it. Eric ended up playing guitar instead of drums, and we decided to present it in a very minimalistic way that seemed to fit with something so catchy and timeless.”

For their 11th studio album, Dr. Dog embraced a new collaborative process. They began with a session at bassist Toby Leaman’s uncle’s cabin, recording live with no rehearsal or overdubs to capture a soulful, live feel.

McMicken, who took on the role of producer for the first time, describes the process:

“For this record, there was an emphasis on creating something very soulful and live-feeling, which meant starting with all of us looking each other in the eye and connecting to the music. The idea was, ‘Let’s be loose, let’s not overthink.’ The more you can let go of that fear of being imperfect, the more you open yourself up to deeper expression.”

‘Tell Your Friends’ and the upcoming album can be pre-ordered now. For more information and updates, visit Dr. Dog’s Instagram below.
