The track is pulled from their upcoming sophomore album The Gloss, set to release on June 14th via Fire Talk and Next Door Records in Canada.

Following the success of their debut album ‘Deep In View,’ Cola continues to pull audiences in with their unique blend of minimalist charm and intricate melodies. Their latest single, ‘Albatross,’ showcases a more discursive approach to songwriting, with intricate arrangements and oblique rhythms that draw listeners into a hypnotic trance. Lead vocalist Tim Darcy’s introspective lyrics, inspired by the imagery of racehorses, add a contemplative element to the band’s signature sound.

Speaking about the track, Darcy reflects:

“This song had a few lives before it took its final form. We played a much faster version on some later Deep in View tours with different lyrics. When we eventually got to the studio we revisited Ben’s original demo and decided to slow it down and re-introduce a heavier feeling.

“I then had a spark of inspiration and completely rewrote the lyrics, which center around “an albatross”–something that greatly hinders accomplishment. From there I started thinking about a horse race and perhaps some trainer watching a slow-motion replay to try identify what’s wrong with an animal’s stride, hence the chorus.”

Accompanying the single release is a string of European tour dates, offering fans the opportunity to experience Cola’s enchanting melodies live in concert. ‘Albatross’ is out now.
