Benji Lewis captures the hope and happiness of the Australian summertime on ‘Unwind’
Austrailian artist, Benji Lewis releases a dreamy, chilled, and atmospheric track that’s ready to kick off the Australian summer.
For many, Benji Lewis comes as a familiar face due to his breakthrough single, ‘Drift.’ ‘Drift’, co-written & produced by his management roster buddy Golden Vessel (who also shares co-writing duties here on ‘Unwind’), was the lead single off of his emotionally driven seven-track sophomore ep in 2017, Home For Now. Since that time, the ep has collected over 25 million streams worldwide.
Now in 2021, as Australia rolls into its summer months, the country’s Covid restrictions are also slowly being lifted as well. Back here in the US though, we are in the midst of fall and winter is approaching quickly. Either way though, we believe it’s always a good time for new uplifting music. And what better way to start your day than pressing the play button on Benji Lewis’ first single of 2021, ‘Unwind.’
The dreamy, chilled, and atmospheric soundscape Mr. Lewis introduces us to is nothing less than mesmerizing and uplifting. On the track, he captures the hope and happiness that summertime so eloquently reveals. Take for instance the following lines, “We made it out alive. The light surrounds ya. Let yourself unwind. I see you and you’re free.” These lines scream of hope and freedom.
Written at the beginning of 2020 as COVID was just emerging, Mr. Lewis describes the mindset and why he decided to release the track now, “The song feels like freedom and summertime to me, and for a while, I just didn’t feel we were in the right place for this song to exist, but as we start moving into some of that here in Australia now, it just felt like the perfect time to share it with everyone.”
As Benji is back home in Australia now with family and friends he’s excited to be able to enjoy “long beach days, going for drives and just being able to move around more freely again.” Let’s hope we can all unwind and live carefree if only for a moment.
