Brisbane’s 1tbsp releases his second double-single of 2021, ‘Stay Up/Rest’
‘Stay Up/Rest’, 1tbsp’s latest double-single makes good on his promise to release more music in 2021.
Maxwell Byrne (A.K.A. Golden Vessel) has a new side-project out where he goes by the alias 1tbsp. Think a little bit of Daphni, Axel Boman, and Four Tet all mixed into one.
Today, fresh on the heels of his debut ep Kanashi and his first double-single, ‘Dhollandia / Circles,’ 1tbsp has released another double-single entitled, ‘Stay Up/Rest.’ The tracks offer the listener both sides of the coin for any given evening. Do I go out (’Stay Up’) or stay in for the night (‘Rest’).
Byrne discussed the background behind the songs, “I made both these songs a couple of months ago around the same time as ‘Dhollandia / Circles.’ My good friend Kalem (rei so la) helped lend some vocals to ‘Stay Up’ and I wrote ‘Rest’ with another one of my friends Julia (who also plays in First Beige). As I was putting this release together, I realized how well the two songs worked together, in that they were kinda opposites. ‘Stay Up’ has more energy but has Kalem singing “slowly” whereas ‘Rest’ feels more peaceful but has Julia singing “get up.” To me ‘Stay Up’ feels like a night out and ‘Rest’ is a night in. I worked with my friend Romina (SiRomo) to design the artwork and she captured that feeling perfectly.”
