Glassio delivers an upbeat, sophomore album reminiscent of the 80’s electro-dance scene from yesteryear.

It has been a strange beginning to Glassio’s solo career. Sam R., the Brooklyn electro-indie / dream-pop artist that goes by Glassio, has never released a solo album during normal times. His first album, For The Very Last Time, was released in July 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic to supportive reviews. The release was named one of the best electronic releases (July 2022) from Bandcamp. And today (5/18) he sees the release of his second LP, See You Shine.

For his second release, the Irish-Iranian singer-songwriter delivers a smooth and dazzling album that continues where he left off in 2020. The album offers an opportunity for Glassio’s playful and energetic demeanor to take center stage. The poppy and infectious 17-track album is overwhelmingly drum and synth-heavy. From the first track (‘Queen Of The Silver City’) to the last (‘Feel It In The Water’), Glassio experiments with warm synths resulting in upbeat Dream-Pop/Alt-Dance aesthetics to outstanding effect.

The record addresses themes of resilience in the face of grief/loss – brought on by the pandemic – and is dedicated to his late father. Lyrically, the album explores what it is like to leave a small town behind for something new. Glassio explains where much of his inspiration came from for the project:

“I made a lot of these new songs in rural Ohio in the fall of 2020. Being in Ohio (and working out of a woodshop) inspired me to dive back into my love for Americana, which is what I would drive around listening to. At night, I’d watch the stars (something I’m not able to do in NYC), put on my headphones, and listen to AIR and Joakim. Through osmosis, I began toying with the idea of mixing those two worlds together for this record.”

The album boasts seven singles that have been released prior to today: ‘Queen of The Silver City’ (July 2021), ‘Magazines’ (September 2021), ‘If Love Is All It Takes’ (November 2021), ‘Dynamites’ (February 2022), ‘Breakaway’ (March 2022), ‘Everyone I Know Moved To L.A.” (March 2022), and ‘The Weekend’ (May 2022).

See You Shine is available on all streaming services May 18, 2022.

Outside of Glassio, Sam R. has co-written and produced songs with French Horn Rebellion, Clubhouse, warner case, NAKAYA, and Madelyn Darling.
