Two-Man Giant Squid skewers the industry with ‘3 Hits’
Two-Man Giant Squid release their new single ‘3 Hits,’ the B-side from their latest 7″ release, out now as the Brooklyn, NY-based post-punk quintet continue to preview new material.
The Brooklyn, NY-based post-punk quintet leans into a sharp, self-aware narrative on ‘3 Hits,’ a track built around angular instrumentation and a danceable, synth-heavy edge. The song centers on a fictionalized but grounded storyline of a band navigating burnout, industry expectations, and absurd opportunities, including being asked to open for Wheatus on a boat. As the B-side of their new 7″, the single highlights a more tongue-in-cheek direction, pairing sardonic humor with commentary on the realities of streaming-era music careers and the pressures to deliver commercial success.
Vinokur calls the track:
“A playful take on what it’s like to be a band in modern times when streaming has made music an unsustainable career, AI is running rampant, and the world is just a giant hurling ball of shit. It’s a true story- we did get asked to open for Wheatus on a boat. We didn’t set out to make a fake beef with them, but here we are. It’s been interesting to hear people ask, ‘Oh, you’re in a band, well have you played with anyone famous?’ as if that’s all that matters.”
‘3 Hits’ is available now to stream.
