Brighton psych-blues quintet Trip Westerns have unveiled their latest single ‘Alive,’ pairing its release with news of a headline UK tour this October that includes their biggest hometown show to date at beachside venue Dalton’s.

Following April’s cinematic single ‘Showdown Shadow,’ ‘Alive’ finds the band in a more spirited and direct mode. Packed with swung, hip-swinging rhythms, blues-soaked riffs, and rasping harmonica, the track channels both the escapism of American nostalgia and the everyday struggles of modern life. With a vintage 60s West Coast flair reminiscent of early Captain Beefheart or Country Joe & The Fish, ‘Alive’ was produced by the band alongside Jake Smallwood at Farm Road Studios and features Ellis Dickson (Fat Dog, ELLiS·D) on drums.

Lead vocalist/guitarist Harrison Baird-Whitman says:

“‘Alive’ genuinely started as a song of gratitude while dealing with the underlying anxieties that life throws your way on – finding the good in what you’ve got kinda thing. But over time for me it seems to have shifted into something satirical. Generally I think all folk try to be positive people but it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to find a light at the end of this current tunnel the world finds itself in. However the glass is always half full and smiling costs nothing, that’s kind of what the second verse alludes to. It’s an ode to a dear friend who no matter what demon’s he was battling he was able to find some slither of gold amongst it.”

‘Alive’ is out now.
