Tiberius preview debut album Troubadour with reflective single ‘Painting of a Tree’

Boston-based “Farm Emo” group Tiberius returns with their latest single, ‘Painting of a Tree,’ out now. The track marks the fourth preview from their forthcoming debut album Troubadour, due November 14, and finds the band expanding their blend of indie punk, alt-country, and psychedelia into darker, more introspective territory.
Following the frenetic energy of ‘Sag’ and ‘Felt’ and the rustic pop warmth of ‘Moab,’ ‘Painting of a Tree’ slows the pace for an aching, sprawling reflection on heartbreak and self-discovery. Downtempo instrumental breaks crash against pounding percussion and raw distortion, while Wright’s lyrics—“I hope they love you / Like I do / At least the way I wanted to / Not the way I did”—anchor the song in emotional honesty.
Speaking about the single, Wright shares:
“There’s this older man I work with – a kooky gentleman who’s kind of off his rocker – but at the same time can incite this erudite understanding of the human condition. When I asked him if he had any advice for someone really mulling over some heartache, he chuckled. He said, ‘an artist cannot paint a tree, unless they examine all aspects of it.’ I wrote, Painting of a Tree, as an homage to this idea that this kind of hurt was a truly human experience. A kind of pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but something that I feel thankful to have experienced. The kind of pain that makes us who we are.”
‘Painting of a Tree’ offers a haunting glimpse into the emotional and sonic depth of Troubadour, an album Wright describes as chronicling “ego death” and rebirth through connection with nature and self-reflection. ‘Painting of a Tree’ is out now. Troubadour is set for release on November 14.
We’ve covered Flippeur previously: ‘Moab,’ ‘Felt,’ and ‘Sag.’
