The Swell Season returns with stirring new single ‘Stuck In Reverse’
After a 16-year hiatus from releasing new albums, The Swell Season—Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová—are back with ‘Stuck In Reverse,’ an impassioned lead single from their forthcoming album Forward, due out June 13, 2025.
‘Stuck In Reverse’ is a masterful reintroduction to the duo’s signature emotional intensity. Built around a soaring vocal performance and cinematic instrumentation, the track captures the complexity of emotional inertia—how difficult it can be to move forward, even when we know we should. Recorded in Iceland at Masterkey Studios and produced by Sturla Mio Thorisson, the single brings together longtime Swell Season collaborators with fresh energy, signaling a powerful new chapter for the group.
The single arrives with a video filmed during a surprise performance at Scratcher in New York City. Speaking about the song, Hansard says:
“In any situation of letting go, moving on is clearly the right and natural thing to do. This song speaks to that part of us that can’t quite get there. The moment just before complete acceptance.”
