Brighton-based indie/Americana outfit The Roebucks have shared their latest single, ‘Mona,’ out now via cult label Goo Records.

With ‘Mona,’ The Roebucks push their swampy, jangling blend of Mississippi Delta blues and Brighton-bred indie rock to compelling new places. The track serves as a brighter companion to their February single, ‘Great British Pig,’ exchanging its snarling bite for warmth and vulnerability. Defined by the Lou Reed-style spoken vocals of Tom Cotter and the soaring, harmony-laden interplay of bandmates Sophie Moloney and Lola Gordon, ‘Mona’ is a testament to the group’s ability to fuse raw emotion with rich melodic hooks. Produced by Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Ramones) and mastered by Stefan Brown at Abbey Road Studios, the single underscores the band’s growing sonic ambition.

The band shares:

“‘Mona’ is a song originally written about (singer) Tom Cotter’s frustration with covid and how it was isolating him to his bedroom. Without wanting to be too literal we changed the lyric from “Hey Rona” to “Hey Mona”. When we had a girl’s name instead it became more of a song of yearning for a lost lover. We wanted a hint of Lou Reed’s talking/singing style in the verses and a Beach Boys-esque layered outro with all three harmonies.”

‘Mona’ is out now on your favorite DSP.
