Ahead of the highly anticipated debut album Untitled, set for release this Friday via American Dreams, The Ark of Teeth presents ‘Love Is Hard,’ their latest single and video that showcases the project’s deeply personal, introspective side.

‘Love Is Hard’ departs from Reyes’ typical avant-garde output to embrace a singer/songwriter approach, revealing an unguarded side. With soulful vocals and sparse yet atmospheric instrumentation, the song explores the complexities of love and vulnerability. The accompanying video, shot on Super 8 and 16mm film, captures the song’s intimacy and adds a layer of nostalgia, enhancing the raw, emotional resonance of the song.

Reflecting on his new direction, Reyes shares:

“I love to sing. I made experimental music because I wanted an exoskeleton. The experiment was how many shields could I use to hide myself because singing — I mean really singing — is scary. But these days I’m not happy with songs that come in a carapace.”

As a precursor to Untitled, ‘Love Is Hard’ reveals a fearless willingness to expose personal truths, setting the stage for an album that promises introspection and experimental artistry.
