Super Furry Animals unearth ‘Pocket Sam’ for Precreation Percolation
Super Furry Animals release ‘Pocket Sam,’ an early recording lifted from their forthcoming compilation Precreation Percolation, due early May 2026, via Strangetown Records.
Originally captured on tape at Grassroots Studio in Cardiff in 1993 as the band began forming in the Welsh capital, ‘Pocket Sam’ showcases dreamy space-rock textures with acclaimed actor and original singer Rhys Ifans on vocals. The track appears on the bonus disc of Precreation Percolation, a collection that brings the band’s two mid-nineties Ankst EPs back to vinyl for the first time in three decades, alongside electro experiments, unheard material, and 2026 Redux mixes. One of three unheard tracks featuring Ifans, ‘Pocket Sam’ sits among early recordings produced prior to the band signing with Alan McGee’s Creation Records in 1995, reflecting embryonic yet recognisable Furry sonics shaped by synth, psych, and melodic rock influences.
In the album’s liner notes, singer Gruff Rhys writes:
“It would have been the best gig ever, had we not daisy-chained so many synthesizers together, that it resulted in a terminal systems failure.”
‘Pocket Sam’ is out now. Precreation Percolation follows on May 1, 2026, and is available for pre-order.
