Sub Urban, the platinum-certified project of Daniel Maisonneuve, has released a new single titled ‘Mercury,’ out today. The track arrives ahead of a string of November tour dates and a performance at Corona Capital in Mexico City. Produced with Geoffrey Hufford, who co-produced Sub Urban’s previous platinum singles ‘Inferno’ and ‘Uh Oh,’ ‘Mercury’ continues the sonic evolution that defined his 2024 sophomore album If Nevermore.

Musically, ‘Mercury’ extends the intricate and emotional sound world that Sub Urban explored on If Nevermore, fusing orchestral arrangements with warped electronic textures. The song’s lush yet uneasy atmosphere combines the driving beats and synths of techno, the atmospheric layers of shoegaze, the melodic sensibilities of new wave, and the acoustic instrumentation found in chamber pop. These elements reflect Maisonneuve’s fascination with the tension between human feeling and digital disconnection.

Maisonneuve describes the track’s concept as deeply personal:

“‘Mercury’ is a song I wrote about a sterile love with no foundation. Spyware in the blood that can’t be drained. The woman I called the love of my life having her face stolen by a computer. And her submitting to it with no fight. To feel as though I am being monitored constantly within my own house by the technologies she has planted. My subconscious is lashing out in the middle of a performance that seemingly never ends.

“The summer night I put the first draft of this song together, I could not think of a name for it. The demo was self titled, ‘Sub Urban’ for the longest time before I would eventually name it ‘Mercury’. Up to this point, this song has defined me more than any other I’ve made sonically.”

Sub Urban will tour throughout November in support of If Nevermore, beginning November 2 in Salt Lake City, UT and continuing through Austin, TX before performing at Corona Capital in Mexico City on November 14.

‘Mercury’ by Sub Urban is available now on all streaming platforms.
