SoftTop release ‘Your Aching Words’ via Crafting Room Recordings
SoftTop release their new single ‘Your Aching Words’ via Crafting Room Recordings. Emerging from Brighton’s underground scene, the seven-piece project led by Miles Goodall continues to build momentum with this latest release, blending soft rock textures and modern indie pop arrangements.
‘Your Aching Words’ unfolds as a conceptual work exploring life, death, and the liminal space in between. Rooted in a real-world setting, the track follows a central character left comatose after being hit by a car on the way to a house party, capturing the moments before and unknowingly during the accident. Musically, the single pairs honest, story-driven lyrics with layered instrumentation including guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, clarinet, cello, and flute. Drawing on influences such as Andy Shauf, Matt Maltese, and Steely Dan, the production balances intimate vocals with orchestral elements and detailed arrangements, recorded across Brighton Electric and home studio sessions in Portslade.
Miles Goodall states:
“We actually recorded this with a bunch of other tracks at Brighton Electric in a mad 3 day session of tracking. We spent a lot of time building on that bare bones frame of the track, in Bob’s bedroom studio mostly, adding the orchestral parts and vocal harmonies. We did have some occasional overdub days at Electric for guitar, but a lot of it was done either at Bob’s flat, or at a small studio space he was renting out in Portslade. Luckily the band are all accomplished musicians, Owen and Charlie play together in other projects (Hutch, Sad Dads), as do Austin (Tinman) and I. Bobby produces a lot of the Brighton music scene and with the addition of Oakley’s cello we were blessed with a great team around the songs.”
‘Your Aching Words’ is out now via Crafting Room Recordings and available to stream on all major platforms.
