Slow Joy tears open emotional scars with ‘Wound’

Dallas-based Chicano artist Slow Joy returns with ‘Wound,’ the gripping new single out now.
‘Wound’ showcases Slow Joy’s fusion of punk urgency, melodic intensity, and emotional grit. Co-written with longtime friend and OneRepublic collaborator Josh Varnadore, the track builds on the foundation laid by the earlier single ‘Gruesome’ with a tighter hook and a sharper delivery. Fueled by Flores’ expressive vocals and swelling guitars, ‘Wound’ captures the feeling of emotional rupture and the tension between pain and perseverance. The official music video, also released today, brings the song’s visceral energy to life.
Produced by Mike Sapone (The Front Bottoms, Oso Oso), A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming continues the sonic evolution Flores began on his acclaimed 2024 EP Mi Amigo Slow Joy. The album was recorded at Ghost Hit Recording in Massachusetts and Sonic Ranch in El Paso, weaving together elements of grunge, emo, and shoegaze. Flores’ Chicano identity remains a powerful thread in his songwriting, informing the album’s themes of resilience, self-discovery, and emotional reckoning.
With ‘Wound,’ Slow Joy continues to carve out a distinct space in alternative rock—one where vulnerability and volume collide. Fans can catch his electrifying live show as the tour continues across the U.S. this spring, with the full-length album arriving May 16.
