Side Hug embraces self-love and growth on new single ‘These Days’

Chicago-based indie outfit Side Hug returns with ‘These Days,’ the latest single from their upcoming debut full-length album New Language, out October 31 via Easy Does It Records.
‘These Days’ marks a bold step forward for the band, capturing the moment of breaking free from old habits and relationships to embrace self-discovery. Opening with the striking lyric, “Read my lips / Learned a new language / I’m done with the same shit these days,” the track instantly establishes its unflinching tone. Over chiming guitars and driving drums, vocalist Lyd Landor delivers a mix of catharsis and confrontation, balancing vulnerability with defiance. It’s both a breakup anthem and a declaration of independence.
Landor explains:
“No one’s going to love you / Like you love yourself… No one’s going to find you / When you’re angry,” Landor sings, reinforcing the track’s themes of resilience and self-reliance.
Produced and mixed by Erik Rasmussen at Chicago’s Palisade Studios, New Language sees Side Hug evolve from their nostalgic indie-folk roots toward a more atmospheric blend of post-punk, shoegaze, and art rock. The album explores change as a central theme—both musically and emotionally.
Vocalist Lyd Landor adds:
“The album really focuses on this idea of change: accepting it, learning from it, and letting things go. Things kind of suck right now, but they will get better. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
‘These Days’ is out now. New Language is scheduled for release on October 31 via Easy Does It Records.
