Shadowman steps into the light with debut single ‘Flowers’
Shadowman release their debut single ‘Flowers,’ marking the first official offering from the new collaborative project featuring John J Presley, Ben Hillier, and Danielle Perry. The single arrives independently, accompanied by a new video directed by Laura-Mary Cater/The Thrill of Losing.
‘Flowers’ introduces Shadowman’s sonic identity with a blend of crunching guitars, sweeping orchestration, death-march brass, motorik drum machines, vocal interplay, and post-rock-leaning builds. The track—featuring Pete Wareham on sax and engineered by Dan Crook—leans into experimentation, shaped around 80s-style delay, a newly acquired synth, and mechanical rhythm patterns. Its atmosphere captures the project’s stated intention to create freely and intuitively, drawing from the members’ shared inspirations.
John J Presley says of this song:
“I wrote the lyrics for ‘Flowers’ after seeing a friend in the street who had just parted ways with his partner. Moments later, I saw the ex-girlfriend with her new man, looking very much in the throes of the early days of any new relationship. The music is a pure experiment with an 80s delay, a recently acquired synth, and a drum machine.”
‘Flowers’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
