Dutch artist Rindert Lammers releases his latest single, ‘Sleep Well Hiroshi Yoshimura,’ a cinematic ambient jazz piece that offers a deeply personal reflection. The track is part of his upcoming debut album, Thank You Kirin Kiki, which arrives April 18 via Western Vinyl.

Blending delicate instrumentation with introspective storytelling, ‘Sleep Well Hiroshi Yoshimura’ captures the essence of Lammers’ unique approach to music. The song features a spoken-word segment that stems from an emotional YouTube comment left under a video of the late Japanese ambient pioneer Hiroshi Yoshimura. The comment details an individual’s experience of living alone in a van for two years in Tokyo, finding solace in Yoshimura’s meditative compositions. Lammers, moved by the beauty of these shared personal narratives, incorporated a spoken rendition of the comment into the track, allowing it to serve as the emotional core of the album. Joseph Shabason’s contributions further enrich the track’s atmospheric depth, blending seamlessly with Lammers’ intricate soundscapes.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Rindert Lammers shares:

“One of the sparks for my album came from an emotional YouTube comment my brother shared with me. Beneath a video featuring the late Japanese ambient pioneer Hiroshi Yoshimura, someone wrote about living alone in a van for two years in the streets and parks of Tokyo. Listening to Yoshimura’s calm, meditative music had made that period the happiest time of their life. This comment became a gateway for me into the cinematic world of Thank You Kirin Kiki. On the track Sleep Well Hiroshi Yoshimura, I included a spoken rendition of that comment, and I think this is the heart of the album.”

‘Sleep Well Hiroshi Yoshimura’ is out now, and Thank You Kirin Kiki arrives on April 18 via Western Vinyl.
