Retail Drugs release their new single ‘Knifetime,’ offering the final preview of the upcoming album Factory Reset, out Friday via Angel Tapes and Fire Talk. The NYC-based project of Jake Brooks continues its rapid-fire 2025 output with a track that expands the project’s noise-forward, punk-influenced sound.

‘Knifetime’ leans into a warped, jagged palette, weaving hypnotic mantras through abrasive electronics, restless rhythms, and a kinetic punk edge. Co-directed by Brooks with Josiah and David Martuscello, the accompanying video reinforces the track’s sense of spiraling energy and disorientation. As part of Factory Reset, the single highlights the album’s detours into noise, rock, and electronics—an approach that departs from the guitar-driven, tape-recorded beginnings of Retail Drugs.

Brooks explains the inspiration behind the track:

“‘Knifetime’ is a track about disassociation and intrusive thoughts. My mind will sometimes slip around and I start making situations up in my head. Sometimes I think shutting down completely is the only response to life. The knife is that other person in my head that wants to see me disappear. They want to give it all up. However, since I’m me, I’ll never give that person too much time to speak.”

‘Knifetime’ is available now on all streaming platforms.

We’ve covered Retail Drugs previously: ‘Anti Lonely,’ and ‘Manny.’
