Windswept is set for release on September 20th via Mexican Summer.

Known for his diverse sound palette, Photay has released the first single from his upcoming album, Windswept. The track, ‘Derecho,’ is named after a violent windstorm. The track eases listeners into a horizon of electronics, featuring a rolling percussive groove and deep bottom end.

Shornstein explains:

“There are many types of wind. Some ebb and flow while others are so large that if you listen, you may hear a low howling drone that stretches for miles in all directions. A few years ago I started recording music during a period of high springtime winds. I found myself falling under the spell of this deep, unpredictable, and often overwhelming force. ‘Derecho’ was the first of many pieces created under the direct influence of these atmospheric conditions. After several gusty seasons, a whole album was created by listening to and reckoning with these larger spirits at play.”

Inspired by the wind, Windswept is an album with sounds designed to mimic the wind’s powerful and unpredictable nature. The album is set to feature fresh electronic textures and acoustic drumming, with contributions from friends such as Randall Fisher, Will Epstein, Carlos Niño, Laraaji, Nate Mercereau, and Mariana Bragada.

‘Derecho’ is out now. Windswept is set for release on September 20th via Mexican Summer.
