pecq unveils captivating single ‘out loud’ ahead of November tour with Chartreuse

Today marks the release of ‘out loud,’ the new single from electro-pop duo pecq, comprised of Nicholas (Nikò) O’Brien and Hannah (Jakes) Jacobs.
Renowned as producers, composers, songwriters, and DIY record label owners, pecq showcase their dynamic creative prowess in this latest offering, signaling the anticipation of a new project slated for 2024. ‘Out loud,’ highlights their ability to create a graceful and propulsive pop song. Drawing influences from the experimental work of Ultraísta and the meditative songwriting of Sampha, ‘out loud’ contradicts its title, delving into a realm of introspection. The track unfolds with skittering, distorted cymbals, allowing Jakes’ captivating, fragile voice to float atop sparse instrumentals, confessing, “I don’t wanna talk about it anyway.” As the track progresses, lush piano movements intermingle with striking atmospherics, culminating in a warped, drum & bass-influenced closing section.
Speaking more on the release of ‘out loud,’ Jakes said:
“‘out loud’ is about not being able to tell someone how you feel about them. As a queer kid with loads of immune problems, I learnt to pretty early on hide a lot of myself for self-preservation and music was always my place to get stuff out. This song is reflecting on the weight of repeatedly keeping things secret and I guess acknowledging that it doesn’t really work – feelings get stranger and bigger the longer you bury them and grow into a force of their own that moves you forward whether you like it or not.”
pecq will next embark on a UK tour with Chartreuse in November. New single ‘out loud’ is out now, with a new project due to be released in 2024.
