Paul Molloy dances through destruction with new single ‘Apocalypso’

Paul Molloy of The Coral has released his latest single, ‘Apocalypso,’ a mariachi-infused anthem that offers a vibrant yet sardonic take on humanity’s march toward oblivion.
Taken from his upcoming album The Madmen of Apocalypso, ‘Apocalypso’ blends a brass-laden groove with a rock n’ roll beat, creating a danceable tune that juxtaposes its playful melody with a darker narrative. The song imagines a world where saintliness is outshone by the deeds of scoundrels, yet hints at the possibility of heavenly redemption—though it’s conditional. This satirical “dance craze” track is a nod to classic dance tunes like the Macarena or The Twist but with a twist of its own, featuring inverted Biblical lyrics and mariachi horns.
Molloy describes the song as a central piece of his album, stating:
“This track plays a central role in the album. A bit of wordplay, it’s essentially a send up dance craze tune à la the Macarena, Watusi, The Monkey, Jerk, or The Twist, but set to a calypso rock n’ roll beat with inverted biblical lyrics and mariachi horns.”
‘Apocalypso’ is available now. The Madmen of Apocalypso is set to drop on September 6, 2024, via Spring Heeled Records.
