múm returns with ‘Mild at Heart,’ a lush preview of upcoming album History of Silence

Icelandic experimental collective múm is back with their first full-length album in over a decade, History of Silence, due out September 19, 2025, via Morr Music. Today, they share the album’s vivid second single, ‘Mild at Heart,’ a quietly expansive track that captures the project’s essence—drifting, detailed, and full of emotional resonance.
‘Mild at Heart’ moves with a gentle unpredictability, balancing silence and sound with a sense of weightless grace. From start to finish, the track unfurls like a soft breeze, allowing room for textural shifts and atmospheric layers to take center stage. It’s a graceful introduction to History of Silence, an album that operates like weather: intimate, unexpected, and in constant flux. Rhythmic flourishes and small melodic hooks emerge from the ambient landscape, revealing múm’s continued mastery of quiet dynamics and sonic tension.
The new album, their seventh studio effort and first since 2013’s Smilewound, was meticulously built over two years in locations spanning Reykjavík, Berlin, New York, Athens, Helsinki, and beyond. With strings recorded by Sinfonia Nord at Iceland’s Hof concert hall and arranged by long-time collaborator Ingi Garðar Erlendsson, the orchestration throughout History of Silence gently enhances rather than overpowers.
History of Silence by múm is out September 19 via Morr Music. Pre-order the album now and stream ‘Mild at Heart’ on all platforms.
