Moon Panda returns with their lush new single ‘Butterknife,’ the latest glimpse into their upcoming third album Dumb Luck, out October 3 via Moon Panda/Virgin Music Group.

The California/Danish dream pop four-piece continue to refine their blend of tender melodies and atmospheric textures with ‘Butterknife,’ a heartfelt and reassuring love song that embraces vulnerability. Written in just 20 minutes, the track arrived organically for bassist/vocalist Maddy Myers, and stands out for its intimacy and charm—especially in its final moments, when the band’s one-year-old child adds a soft shaker rhythm.

Recorded mostly at home by Myers and guitarist Gustav Moltke, with keyboardist George Godwin producing and Josh Cabitac on drums, the single was finalized by Adam Thein (Djo), who also worked on the band’s previous album Sing Spaceship, Sing!.

Discussing the single, bassist/vocalist Maddy Myers states:

“‘Butterknife’ is a love song for those insecure moments in a relationship. It’s reassuring that the love is still there and there was never any need to question it. It was one of those songs that just kind of happens, is completely written in like 20 minutes, and just felt right. My favorite thing about ‘Butterknife’ is that the shaker at the end is played by our 1-year-old baby – boy’s got pocket!”
