Nashville-based indie alt-pop trio Moody Joody have just released their new single, ‘Ground Control,’ an upbeat yet reflective track that navigates the struggles of burnout and finding joy in everyday life.

On ‘Ground Control,’ Moody Joody deliver a catchy melody with playful lyrics that tap into the feeling of being stuck in a monotonous loop. Written in New York City alongside frequent collaborator Scott Harris (known for his work with Shawn Mendes and Dua Lipa), the song radiates with optimism, encouraging listeners to look beyond the mundane and aim for higher goals.

Vocalist Kayla Hall explains the inspiration behind the song:

“Somewhere along the line it turned into an upbeat anthem about being burned out from the monotony of working side jobs, stuck in a loop of dissociation and being dissatisfied with your current circumstances. What’s more therapeutic than writing a rock bottom banger?! ‘Ground Control’ is for anyone who has hit their wits end in whatever artistry they are pursuing.”

The music video, directed by Gavin Hurlburt, complements the song’s theme of escapism, depicting how we cope with mundane tasks while dreaming of a better life. This collaboration perfectly captures the existential themes behind ‘Ground Control.’

‘Ground Control’ is out now.
