Monsieur Mellow and Taj Ralph capture late-night vibes on ‘Slow Down’
Monsieur Mellow, the solo project of Australian songwriter and producer Callum MacDonald, releases his new single ‘Slow Down’ featuring Sydney artist Taj Ralph through Mammal Sounds.
‘Slow Down’ is built around warm rhythms and subtle swing, focusing on a soundscape defined by feel, flow, and restraint. Produced and mixed by MacDonald, ‘Slow Down’ features a smooth vocal delivery from Taj Ralph, including a triplet-style rap moment that adds to the track’s relaxed cadence. The collaboration emphasizes a shared sense of atmosphere, moving away from strict planning in favor of a groove-led, unforced creative process. Ralph wrote his contributions while living in London, drawing inspiration from the local music scene to explore themes of love and good times.
Reflecting on the track, Monsieur Mellow explains:
“After I locked in the sound of the project with Paris Strut, everything just started flowing. I went on a bit of a run, making track after track that all lived in the same world and felt completely natural to me. It’s hard to pin down exactly what that sound is, but Slow Down came together only a few days after that first track.”
Taj Ralph adds:
“Callum’s funk gave me the perfect excuse to bring that energy out and into the track. I wrote about love and good times with new people.”
