Monotronic releases nostalgic single ‘Kids of Summer’ featuring Grammy-nominated drummer Omar Hakim

New York City-based indie rock band Monotronic has just released their latest single, ‘Kids of Summer,’ along with an accompanying music video.
Originally released as a single in 2020, ‘Kids of Summer’ has been reworked to feature the drumming talents of Grammy-nominated Omar Hakim. Known for his work with legendary artists like David Bowie, Daft Punk, and Foo Fighters, Hakim adds a dynamic layer to the already catchy indie-pop anthem. The song reflects on freedom and youth, evoking nostalgic feelings of simpler times when possibilities seemed endless.
Bandleader Ramsey Elkholy describes the track as a “fun summer banger” that explores the courage required to navigate relationships and uncertainties during youth. The music video, shot guerrilla-style in the streets of lower Manhattan during the summer of 2020, captures the vibrant energy of New York City, blending scenes of Black Lives Matter protests and pandemic-era life with personal touches like Elkholy’s French bulldog, Snookie, riding a skateboard.
‘Kids of Summer’ is out now.
