British songwriter Matthew And The Atlas has unveiled his latest single, ‘Record Store’, a soul-stirring track that offers a glimpse into his highly anticipated forthcoming album This Place We Live.

Capturing the essence of change, nostalgia, and the passage of time, ‘Record Store’ stands as a testament to Hegarty’s emotive songwriting prowess. Delving into the universal sentiment of yearning for places that hold profound memories from the past, ‘Record Store’ becomes a symbol of the cherished locations of Hegarty’s youth, a sonic embodiment of the bittersweet feeling of being distanced from one’s own history.

Here’s Hegarty discussing the track:

“Written during the pandemic, the ‘Record Store’ isn’t an actual place, it’s a mixture of places, a music shop called Kingfishers that I used to go in Fleet when I was younger, which is now a Co-Op. The Tumbledown Dick in Farnborough which was an old school pub with a music room where I played some of my first shows, that place had been going since 1700, now it’s a drive thru McDonald’s. A family-run hardware store in Fleet that had been open for 112 years closed over the lockdown. It’s about the passage of time, how the places you used to go to disappear or get replaced, feeling like we might be losing something important, and what that means for the future.”

As the release of This Place We Live draws closer, ‘Record Store’ stands as an exquisite taste of what’s to come.
