Brooklyn-based post-punk band Lathe of Heaven has returned with ‘Aurora,’ the cinematic lead single from their newly announced sophomore LP Aurora, due out August 29, 2025, via Sacred Bones. Blending goth-laced textures with romantic fatalism, the track introduces a record that promises to expand the band’s sonic and thematic reach.

‘Aurora’ is an anthem rooted in emotional intensity and sharp, deliberate aesthetics. Driven by crashing drums and shimmering guitars, the song’s chorus channels ’80s new wave grandeur as vocalist Gage Allison pleads, “Lost in pure devotion / Tracing heaven lying next to you.” With its rich atmospherics and dramatic pull, the track captures both intimacy and vastness—qualities further brought to life in a visually stunning video directed by Devan Davies.

As the title track of their forthcoming album, ‘Aurora’ sets the tone for what promises to be a bold and reflective collection. Influenced by the literary works of Octavia Butler, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Greg Egan, the album presents itself as a sci-fi anthology in sonic form—exploring consciousness, anti-colonialism, mental health, and memory through meticulously layered arrangements. Produced by Ben Greenberg and mastered by Brad Boatright, Aurora incorporates elements of British and Finnish post-punk, underground pop, and goth rock, drawing comparisons to The Cure, Musta Paraati, and A Flock of Seagulls.

‘Aurora’ is out now. Their upcoming sophomore LP Aurora, is due out August 29, 2025, via Sacred Bones.
