Montreal’s knitting share lead single ‘Spirit Gum’ from Debut LP Some Kind of Heaven / Sign to Mint Records

Their debut album Some Kind of Heaven is available on September 6, 2024.
To celebrate their signing to Mint Records, knitting has released the lead single ‘Spirit Gum,’ accompanied by an engaging music video. Recorded with Scott Munro of Preoccupations, ‘Spirit Gum’ delves into the emotional turmoil of a domestic relationship’s end. The track is characterized by its intense layers of guitar, reminiscent of 90s alt-rock icons like Hole and modern acts such as Dilly Dally and Momma.
Mischa Dempsey shares about the song:
“I had a very sudden falling out with a roommate and moved out of our shared apartment on a dime, no easy feat given Montreal’s ongoing affordable housing crisis. There’s not a lot of discourse in popular culture on friendship breakups – let alone roommate breakups, where your lives are so physically intertwined – so I found myself at a kind of loss for words about how to describe the situation and my emotions surrounding it. I turned to describing the ways felt occupying the space around our decaying friendship and roommate-ship, ‘walking on eggshells/like these floors aren’t mine’. ‘Spirit Gum’ is about how big human emotions can distort a physical space, and the toll not feeling ‘at home’ in your own space can take on you.”
‘Spirit Gum’ is available now. Some Kind of Heaven is set for release on September 6, 2024.
