Brooklyn-based harpist and songwriter Rebecca El-Saleh, known as Kitba, unveils their striking new single ‘Wolf’s Mouth,’ a sharp-edged departure from their typically meditative sound.

Inspired by a recurring childhood nightmare, ‘Wolf’s Mouth’ marries serrated keys with fuzzy rhythms, exploring the tension between fear and trust. The track arrives with a visual directed by Dani Shapiro, portraying dreamlike imagery that has long fueled El-Saleh’s work. Its jagged sonics signal a bold new dynamic range for Kitba, paving the way for their upcoming full-length Hold the Edges, due September 19 via Ruination Record Co.

“The song is based on a recurring childhood nightmare where I was in a room with a filing cabinet in the corner and a large wolf that would open its mouth. I would place my head inside its mouth and then wake up. I never got to see beyond the bite and I often wonder what was in the cabinet and why, when I eventually became less scared of the wolf, he disappeared. This song is about being ready to let the unknown consume me.”

‘Wolf’s Mouth’ is out now, with Hold the Edges to follow on September 19.
