Joyer finds solace in cinema on dreamy new single ‘At The Movies’

East Coast indie rock duo Joyer have unveiled their latest single, ‘At The Movies,’ a shimmering and introspective track that serves as the final preview of their upcoming album On The Other End of the Line…, arriving October 24 via Julia’s War Recordings.
‘At The Movies’ is accompanied by a stunning animated music video created by Sabrina Nichols (Shep Treasure), who also contributes vocals to the album. Set to a swirl of surreal landscapes and sauntering animals, the single captures the hazy comfort of escaping into film, mirroring the band’s gentle yet expansive sound. Recorded at Palisade Studios in Chicago and produced by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr, the track continues to showcase Joyer’s evolution toward melody-driven, emotionally charged indie rock.
Shane Sullivan explains:
“At the time I was writing this song, I was thinking a lot about how going to the movies can be such a great distraction from any problems I’m having. Movies have always been something really important to both of us and something we definitely bonded on at an early age. I think it inspires and informs a lot of our music-making and can be a comforting break from being burnt out from music or other areas of my life.”
Following their acclaimed 2024 album Night Songs, Joyer’s forthcoming record promises a more vulnerable and textured sound, exploring distance, connection, and self-reflection. Previous singles ‘Cure,’ ‘Spell,’ and ‘Glare of the Beer Can’ offered glimpses of the album’s emotional range—from jangly twang to cathartic fuzz.
Joyer will celebrate the release of On The Other End of the Line… with a record release show on October 25 at Brooklyn’s Market Hotel alongside Horse Jumper of Love (solo), High., and Whisper Doll. The duo will also hit the road this fall, touring across the U.S. in support of Rocket, Teethe, and villagerrr.
‘At The Movies’ is out now.
