José González unveils ‘A Perfect Storm’ ahead of fifth studio album
José González has released his new single ‘A Perfect Storm.’ The Gothenburg, Sweden-based singer-songwriter and guitarist’s latest release marks his first new collection of original songs in more than four years.
‘A Perfect Storm’ draws inspiration from the sound of González’s live performances and a range of influences, including West Saharan desert blues, Quicksand, and Battles. The track features propulsive rhythmic fingerpicking that builds toward a distorted peak beneath his intimate vocal delivery. Lyrically, it addresses what many AI experts describe as a “race to lose control,” examining humanity’s role in shaping an increasingly turbulent future. An official music video is currently in production, while the lyric video is streaming now.
José González says:
“‘A Perfect Storm’ is about how we ourselves are creating the conditions for a more and more turbulent future. Compared to natural risks, these are man-made, and therefore not random.”
‘A Perfect Storm’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
We’ve covered José González previously: ‘Against the Dying of the Light.’
