Singer-songwriter J Mahon, poised to drop his highly anticipated debut album Everything Has A Life on September 8th via Taxi Gauche Records, has just shared a captivating glimpse into his upcoming album with the final teaser, the emotionally charged psych-ballad titled ‘Charly (Romantic Heart).’

Drawing inspiration from luminaries like Sufjan Stevens and Sparklehorse, ‘Charly (Romantic Heart)’ delivers an evocative torrent of luminous string arrangements, sun-kissed choruses, and intimate acoustic moments. The song’s essence unburdens the weight of a turbulent past, gently transitioning toward the prospects of a brighter future.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Mahon elaborates:

“Charly was written for my friend Charly in 2021. It’s loosely based around her and also my own feelings of when you begin a new relationship sometimes you can get so blinded by this new feeling that you can’t see the reality of the situations around it; thinking that you need to find another person to be with, when most of the time maybe it’s better to be on your own.”

Recorded at London’s renowned Ha Ha Sounds studio alongside Syd Kemp (Thurston Moore and Vanishing Twin), the track features instrumental contributions from Magdalena Mclean on Violin (The Umlauts, Caroline) and Callum Brown on Drums (Ulrika Spacek). ‘Charly’ germinated during a phase when Mahon dedicated hours to sanding wood beneath an Upcycle workshop’s tutelage while immersing himself in Pavement and Paul McCartney’s tunes.

‘Charly (Romantic Heart)’ is available today on all streaming services. For further updates and information on J Mahon and his debut album, stay tuned to Mahon’s official social media channels (below). Everything Has a Life is out September 8th.
