Immaterialize releases first single after signing to Angel Tapes

Chicago experimental pop duo Immaterialize has shared their latest single and video, ‘Its A Vision,’ coinciding with the announcement of their signing to Angel Tapes, the emerging artists imprint of Fire Talk Records.
Formed by Lipsticism (Alana Schachtel) and DJ Immaterial (Erik Fure), the duo has been collaborating for over a decade before officially emerging as Immaterialize in 2024. Rooted in Chicago’s indie and rock scene yet driven by experimental pop impulses, Immaterialize crafts music that sits outside traditional boundaries. ‘Its A Vision’ marks their return after more than a year of writing and recording their debut collection.
As its title suggests, the track originated from a dream of Schachtel’s, and its dreamlike origins bleed into the haunted, reverb-heavy production. Recalling the soundscapes of ML Buch and Snuggle, the single drifts on ethereal guitars and gauzy vocals, balancing between catharsis and melancholy. Fure opens the track by singing, “It’s a vision that I’ve had before, it’s a dream I don’t want anymore,” setting the tone for a piece that is both surreal and deeply human.
Fure explains:
“The knife twist of hope, delusion, and denial after a loved one passes away. Mistakenly thinking you see them, dreaming they’re actually still here, hoping there’s some sort of indication that their spirit or consciousness persists and can be present in our lives.”
With their signing to Angel Tapes, a label that champions rising talent across the indie landscape, Immaterialize join a roster that includes Jawdropped, shower curtain, Retail Drugs, Sleeper’s Bell, and ira glass.
‘Its A Vision’ is available now, with more from Immaterialize expected later this year.
