Toronto-based art pop artist Huxlii (Sabrina Carrizo Sztainbok) unveils the music video for her single ‘Pretty Boys Don’t Die,’ a standout track from her upcoming EP Odds and Ends, But Mostly Ends, set to release this Friday, January 17, via Majesticsilk Records.

‘Pretty Boys Don’t Die’ is one of the oldest tracks on the EP and carries a haunting backstory. Inspired by a dream about a pretty boy burning his face, the song delves into complex themes of beauty, youth, and idolization. With ambiguous and repetitive lyrics, the track has evolved in meaning for Huxlii over the years, transitioning from teenage musings on celebrity culture to a deeper reflection on the traps of idealizing aesthetics.

Musically, the song captures Huxlii’s art pop essence, blending melodic bedroom punk influences with raw, emotive storytelling. The surreal lyrics create a vivid landscape, reinforcing Huxlii’s knack for merging fantasy with the everyday. As she puts it, “My friend once told me that she thought I wrote the song about Edward Cullen. That felt like a pretty apt description as well.”

With Odds and Ends, But Mostly Ends, Huxlii shifts her sound, moving from her DIY production roots to studio recordings while retaining the intimate and personal touch of her early work. As listeners anticipate the full release, ‘Pretty Boys Don’t Die’ sets the stage for an EP filled with vulnerability, surrealism, and striking melodies.
