Heaven For Real unpacks modern frustration on ‘Improvement’

Canadian art-rock outfit Heaven For Real have shared ‘Improvement,’ the latest single from their upcoming album Who Died & Made You The Dream?, out November 7 via Mint Records. The track arrives with a new video that doubles as a dance experiment—an apt pairing for a song about progress, process, and the absurdity of self-improvement culture.
‘Improvement’ blends the band’s off-kilter rhythms with sharp lyricism and frenetic guitar work. Using the idea of road rage as a metaphor, the song reflects on the universal desire to “do better” in a world filled with contradictory messages. It’s equal parts witty and existential, mirroring the push-and-pull between frustration and optimism that defines modern life.
The band says:
“‘Improvement’ is a song using the idea of road rage to express wanting to not be late all the time and to become a better listener. Also about the discordance of feeling caught in the crosshairs of a world covered in internet detritus telling us how we should better ourselves while everything seems to be on the verge of collapsing. Trying to maybe celebrate that absurdity too. Laura Jeffery (Laughing, Fountain) excellently drums and sings on this one. ‘Traffic’ is improving(?)!”
The accompanying video, featuring Jeffery’s choreography, brings the song’s themes to life by showing dancers learning the routine in real-time—a visual metaphor for trial, error, and growth. Shot just before Jeffery’s departure from the country, the video emphasizes the beauty in imperfection and the value of process over polish.
‘Improvement’ is out now.
