Girl Tones reckon with the past on explosive new single ‘Blame’

Rising rock duo Girl Tones continue their hot streak with the release of ‘Blame,’ a sharp and self-aware new single that marks another evolution in their sound.
Kenzie and Laila, the sister act behind Girl Tones, use ‘Blame’ to reflect on conflict and personal accountability with a more mature and introspective lens than their earlier material. Drawing on their classical training and rock influences, the track captures the emotional weight of unresolved tension with a gritty, retro flair. The single is accompanied by a playful video filmed at Nashville’s Dive Motel, where sibling rivalry is dialed up with cheeky nods to classic tropes — dividing rooms, pulling pranks, and setting visual boundaries in a richly vintage palette.
Kenzie shares:
“Originally I wrote ‘Blame’ totally differently, it was out of teenage spite, the lyrics were blaming everyone but myself. When we brought it to the studio, being in my mid-twenties, I now have a very different outlook on life and rewrote most of it. As you get older, relationships become more complicated, truthfully who is to blame if they fail? In the song, we play with that idea of right and wrong, pride and vulnerability. ‘Blame’ explores the emotional weight of unresolved conflict and how the need for accountability can clash with pride and pain. It’s difficult to pursue forgiveness in yourself and others.”
‘Blame’ is out now.
