Frog unveils smokey new single ‘JUST USE YR HIPS VAR. VI’ ahead of upcoming album

New York indie duo Frog returns with ‘JUST USE YR HIPS VAR. VI,’ the latest single from their forthcoming album 1000 Variations on the Same Song, set for release on February 14 via Audio Antihero and Tapewormies.
A departure from the agitated indie rock of their earlier work, ‘JUST USE YR HIPS VAR. VI’ leans into a more atmospheric and soulful energy. The track is part of the album’s overarching concept, which embraces the idea of songwriting repetition, reworking motifs and themes across multiple variations.
Speaking about the album’s theme, Bateman explains:
“1000 Variations on the Same Song is a theme and variations—there are times in your life as a songwriter where you’ll start a bunch of stuff that all sounds alike, which can be a problem, something that you want to excise from yourself. This time I decided to embrace it and take it as far as it could go.”
As Frog prepares to embark on a North American tour in March, ‘JUST USE YR HIPS VAR. VI’ offers a compelling glimpse into the ambitious, shape-shifting world of 1000 Variations on the Same Song.
