Frog Eyes unveil spirited new single ‘Television, a Ghost in My Head’

Vancouver’s cult-rock band Frog Eyes returns with ‘Television, a Ghost in My Head,’ the latest single from their upcoming album, The Open Up, set for release on March 7, 2025, via Paper Bag Records.
A frenetic and tightly wound composition, the song pulses with nervous energy and intricate instrumental layers. Drawing inspiration from the post-punk tautness of Television and blending it with a hint of Canned Heat’s looseness, Frog Eyes crafts a track that thrives on tension and release. Jittery guitar work, frantic drums, and evocative lyrics build a sonic landscape that feels both immediate and nostalgic. The track is accompanied by a video featuring playful footage of a seal, filmed by frontman Carey Mercer at a Vancouver ferry dock, reinforcing the song’s unpredictable and lively spirit.
Carey Mercer explains the inspiration behind the track:
“’Elevation, don’t go to my head.’ This lyric from Television’s song ‘Elevation’ has rattled around in my head for decades now. Sometimes, for obvious reasons, it incorrectly morphs into: ‘Television, don’t go to my head.’ Maybe I’m nostalgic for both of them: the medium and the band. So: ‘Television. The ghost in my head.'”
With The Open Up marking their tenth album, Frog Eyes continues to push boundaries while remaining distinctly themselves. ‘Television, a Ghost in My Head’ serves as an electrifying preview of what’s to come.
