London-based art-pop band Flat Party has released their latest single, ‘Madonna,’ a dark and unsettling glimpse into the band’s upcoming EP It’s All Been Done Before, due out on November 15th via Submarine Cat Records.

‘Madonna’ presents an intense mix of driving guitars, shimmering synths, and disturbing lyrics that address toxic masculinity and sexual manipulation. The track’s spiraling energy builds to a climactic finale, underscored by frontman Jack Lawther’s provocative lyrics: “You ask me what’s my favourite tune to go down to / You say: I’ll make you feel like you’ve never been touched before / I’ll make you feel like Madonna, baby.”

Speaking about the song, Lawther revealed:

“This song is about sexually intimidating people. You know, the sort that have seen it all before, and nothing you do will make it worth their time. Lyrically, It’s deliberately off-putting and kind of creepy. I wrote it pretty much all in one go, in a stream of consciousness where I just let that horrid part of my mind take over. Musically, it’s very repetitive, which I think comes from a lot of the krautrock and industrial music I was listening to at the time.”

As It’s All Been Done Before approaches its release, ‘Madonna’ sets the tone for a darker, more hedonistic side of Flat Party.
