Copenhagen-based composer and songwriter Fie Eike explores the delicate balance between self-identity and the pursuit of belonging in her latest single, ‘Fluid.’

Out now, ‘Fluid’ encapsulates the struggle of losing connection with one’s core self as we over-adapt to meet others’ expectations. With her signature blend of ethereal soundscapes, Eike draws listeners into an underwater world of wonder, where the lines between self and other are beautifully, yet dangerously, undefined.

Eike explains the song’s meaning, noting that while adaptability is often seen as a strength, it can lead to a loss of self when taken too far in the pursuit of belonging.

“The need for belonging is a basic human instinct and it is a very beautiful thing, as long as we don’t lose ourselves in the quest for it. Because the paradox is, that in order to belong or experience true connectedness and love, we must first belong to ourselves.”

Inspired in part by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid, ‘Fluid’ resonates with a sense of melancholy and hope, capturing the tension between the desire for community and the essential need for self-identity. ‘Fluid’ is out now.
